Nine county players named to baseball All-State team - Shelby County Reporter (2024)

Shelby County’s best were recognized among the top baseball players in the state of Alabama after nine area stars earned spots on the All-State baseball team.

Players from the Thompson Warriors, Oak Mountain Eagles, Chelsea Hornets, Briarwood Christian Lions, Shelby County Wildcats and Vincent Yellow Jackets received selections when the rosters were released by the Alabama Sportswriters Association on Saturday, June 8.

Thompson’s D’Marion Terrell earned Class 7A All-State First Team honors as a utility player for his big performances across the field.

The 2024 Shelby County Hitter of the Year earned a .426 average at the plate along with 42 RBI and 10 home runs, and on the mound, he amassed a 2.12 ERA by allowing just 14 earned runs all season.

Two other Warriors represented THS on the Class 7A All-State Second Team with Peryn Bland’s infielder selection and Ethan Crook’s designated hitter spot.

Bland was an All-County First Team selection in 2024 with 50 hits and 30 RBI along with a .524 slugging percentage and .926 OPS.

Crook was a key power hitter out of the catcher’s spot with 10 doubles and four home runs for a .546 slugging percentage and .998 OPS to go with a .345 batting average, good enough for an All-County First Team spot.

Representing the county on the Class 7A All-State Honorable Mention list was Oak Mountain pitcher Bryson Morman and Chelsea’s Chase Lackey in the utility spot.

Morman was one of the top pitchers in Shelby County with a 6-2 record, 1.23 ERA and 0.93 WHIP, including a streak of 24 straight shutout innings to secure his All-County First Team place.

Lackey ended 2024 with a .337 average and .808 OPS with his 33 hits across 98 at-bats. His 19-for-20 stolen base record was another reason he earned an All-County Second Team place.

In Class 6A, Jake Souders of Briarwood Christian earned All-State First Team honors for his big two-way performances.

Souders had a 2.44 ERA and rate of 8.1 strikeouts per seven innings as a pitcher, and at the plate, he batted .408 with 20 RBI, a .704 slugging percentage and 1.251 OPS to make the All-County First Team.

Gannon Pharr represented the Shelby County Wildcats on the Class 5A All-State First Team after previously making the All-County First Team this season.

Pharr led the Wildcats offense with a .404 average, and the senior outfielder had the third-most runs in the county with 42.

Vincent’s Aiden Poe secured big honors in Class 2A as an All-State First Team pitcher.

Poe, who was also named Class 2A Pitcher of the Year, earned the county’s top pitching award with a 12-1 record, 0.97 ERA and 0.67 WHIP while throwing 134 strikeouts against just eight walks.

Casen Fields joined Poe as an All-State selection after he earned a Class 2A Second Team infielder spot.

Fields was an All-County First Team selection with his 35 RBI off 44 hits for a .407 batting average while going a perfect 35-for-35 on stolen base attempts.
